5️⃣ Reasons to Pause on the Pursuit of Protein: 1️⃣The only way we have extended healthspan and longevity in all model organisms tested is with dietary restriction without malnutrition. Particularly with essential amino acid (protein) restriction. 2️⃣According to the CDC, we consume more than the recommended intake of protein. 3️⃣Packaging matters. Animal products, touted for their high protein content come packaged with saturated fat, heme iron, Neu5Gc, carnitine, and contaminants created when flesh is cooked (e.g. polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, heterocyclic amines, and advanced glycation end products). 4️⃣Protein is plentiful in plants. We can easily get enough and avoid getting too much by emphasizing vegetables, fruits, whole grains, legumes, mushrooms, nuts, seeds, herbs, and spices. Plus, plants come packed with phytonutrients and fiber, the two most important nutrient groups. 5️⃣All plants contain all amino acids. Either you eat the plant or you eat the animal that ate the plant.
