Class 24 – Nutrition and Health – Spring 2020 – April 17th – Chapter 13 – Trace Minerals
There is a Live On-line Lecture during the official class time (12:35 pm) today. Please go to the Sakai Meetings Tool and you can join the meeting and see the lecture. The lecture will also be recorded!
After Trace Minerals today we have finished the curriculum for the course. For the 4 classes that are remaining we will have 2 special lectures and 2 review lectures. I need to finish the grading of the Diet assignments and the Exercise assignments. I have a reading explaining parts of the exercise assignment. I will also try to answer any of your questions from the course.
A few days ago I put a quiz on TopHat for the Water soluble vitamins. I will put additional quizzes on TopHat too.
FINAL EXAM – I will put the final exam on TopHat as a Take home Open Book Exam using the Home Work function. It will be open on TopHat for about 4 days and will have an absolute due date because I want to finish up all the final course grades fairly early.

Hi Dr. Dixon, I hope you are doing well. I was wondering if we would get points off if our calorie intake from the diet assignment did not match the total energy expenditure by a significant amount? Also, on a side note, I was wondering when you were going to post the live lecture videos on Sakai, or are they already posted? If so, how do we access them? Thank you,
Answer: Hi, No, all of these calculations are just estimates. The recorded lectures can be found in the Sakai Meeting Tool. Joe Dixon
USDA Assignment Questions
Hi, Mr. Dixon, _____ here. I don’t have Excel, so I tried using Google Sheets to access the worksheets in the Dairy Products section. However, I am unable to access the worksheets in Google Sheets. I will do my best to try to fix this issue, but I’ll let you know if anything else comes up. Sincerely,
Answer: You might want to use the Apple version of Excel to access them! You have plenty of time. Maybe call a friend for help. Or Google this question for an answer. Joe Dixon
Hi Professor Dixon, Thanks! I just have 2 questions on the water-soluble vitamins quiz, 1 on question 1 and the other on question 5.
For question 1, what do water soluble vitamins do, I know in your lecture you said as a joke, it acts like little pacmans and makes you go faster, however, we also learnt that they help enzymes, carry electrons, and help with energy. So I’m a bit confused on which one of the two I should put for that question.
For question 5, I know that you said that the cell does not have buildings in it, so we shouldn’t put that answer on the exam. So for the quiz, would we just put that niacin is the cell’s power line, since it transfers hydrogens and electrons? Thanks for your help,
Answer: Hi, You have to figure out the answer to question 1. It is pretty obvious! Question 5 – The answer is in the PowerPoints for sure!
